Answer the following questions :

1. How do accidents occur?

Ans: Accidents can happen at any time and place. Accidents are dangerous as they cause injury to people. They can sometimes even cause death.

Carelessness leads to accidents.

2. Why is it important to follow road signs?

Ans: It is important to follow road sign because if we do not follow road sign it can cause of accident .

3. What should one do if there is a gas leak in the house?

Ans: If there is a gas leak, warn everyone in the house. Open all doors and windows in and around the kitchen so that the gas spreads out. Do not operate any electrical switches as it may explode the gas. Get the leakage repaired immediately.

4. What should one do if the oil in a pan catches fire?

Ans: If the oil in the pan catches fire, control the fire throwing baking soda on the burning oil. Baking soda can stop spreading fire. Never throw water, it will splatter the oil and spread the fire.

5. What first-aid will you give in the following cases :


a. Fracture : Keep the broken limb in a natural position. 

Use a splint slip to give support to the broken limb.

A triangular piece of cloth can be used to make a sling.

Tie a firm bandage around the joint. Keep the bandage wet with cold water.

Take the advice of a doctor.


b. Sprain : Do not move the sprained joint .

Tie an plastic joint around the joint to keep it from moving .

Consult a doctor , if necessary .

C. Nose bleed : In case of nose bleeds: 

Loosen the clothing around the neck.

Sit upright with the head held back and arms folded above the head.

Press the bleeding side of the nose firmly with your fingers.

Keep an ice-pack or wet cloth on the nose and on the back of the neck.

Breathe through your mouth. Do not blow your nose for a few hours after the bleeding stops. 

In case of heavy bleeding, take the help of a doctor.

d. Dog bite :  Wash the wound with soap and water to wash away the germs.

Bandage with a sterile gauze after gently rubbing an antiseptic lotion or cream on the wound.

Take the victim to a doctor immediately .


e. Snake bite : A person bitten by a poisonous snake must be rushed to the hospital. 

A tight bandage can be tied around the wound to slowdown the spread of poison in the body.

Remember, your immediate attention and first-aid can save lives.


6. Why should a fire caused by petrol never be put off with water?

Ans:  A fire cause by petrol never be put off with water because water conducts electricity and you can get electric shock .

7. Define the following terms


First-aid : First aid is the first and immediate action given to a person different from either a minor or serious illnes before the doctor came .

Fire extinguisher: fire extinguisher is an active fire protection device used to extinguish or control small fires, often in emergency situations. 

 Fracture: A fracture is a crack . In case of a fracture the victim is in great pain and is unable to move the broken limb. 

Splint : A piece of wood or metal which is used to tied to a broken arm body part for treatment .
